Miranda do Douro celebrates Mirandese Language Day on September 17 and 18 with a program dedicated to the promotion and preservation of this language, considered one of the main elements of the cultural identity of Terra de Miranda. Mirandese was officially recognized in 1999 and is part of Portugal's linguistic and cultural heritage.
On the 17th, the initiatives take place at the School Grouping of Miranda do Douro, where a new training center for teachers and a Mirandese textbook for the first year of schooling will be presented. A postgraduate program for teachers of the language will also be announced, promoted by the Polytechnic University of Bragança in partnership with the Mission Structure for the Promotion of the Mirandese Language.
During the afternoon, at the Town Hall, the translation of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic into Mirandese will be presented, along with the strategic plan of the mission structure and a new edition of "Flores Mirandesas" by José Leite de Vasconcelos.
The program concludes on the 18th at 5:00 PM in the Courtyard of the House of Magistrates, with the presentation of "L Nuosso Reino" by Valter Hugo Mãe, translated into Mirandese by Alcides Meirinhos. The session also includes the debut of the female choral group "Bozes de l Praino" (Voices of the Plateau), which performs repertoire in the Mirandese language. The goal is to reinforce the transmission of the language to new generations and encourage the continuity of its use and valorization.
