The school year began with a new ban on smartphones in schools, covering all students up to 9th grade. This measure is part of the Ministry of Education's policies to reduce distractions in the classroom.
On the eve of the start of classes, the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, publicly acknowledged that many students will not have all their teachers at the start of the school year.
The teacher shortage particularly affects two regions: Greater Lisbon and the district of Setúbal, where there are greater difficulties in filling all teaching positions.
This situation arises in the context of the start of a new school year, with the government facing challenges in hiring teachers to ensure complete coverage of school needs in these geographic areas.
