The Order of Doctors is moving forward with proposals to counter what it considers to be "isolated measures" in the placement of family doctors in Portugal. The President of the Order of Doctors has been advocating that a structured and comprehensive plan is needed to solve the problem of doctor shortages in various regions of the country.
Viseu is among the 11 areas identified as being difficult for doctor placement. This situation results in a lack of family doctors for the population of these regions, affecting citizens' access to primary healthcare services.
The Order's proposals aim to create conditions to attract and retain health professionals in less attractive areas, possibly including professional incentives, improvements in working conditions, and investments in local health infrastructure.
