The PSD in Faro accused the mayor, António Miguel Pina, of using the solemn session of Municipal Day to criticize the previous municipal management and to make political comparisons that heightened divisions, when the ceremony should have been a moment of celebration and unity for the municipality. In a statement, the social democrats contest the claim that the current executive found a council without planned projects, arguing that António Miguel Pina himself defended during the electoral campaign that there were projects, studies, and models prepared by the previous administration.
According to the PSD, there is a contradiction between the electoral discourse of the current mayor, who presented himself as a candidate of "doing" and "knowing how to do," and the announcements made by the executive, which correspond, for the party, to projects and priorities previously studied or brought into public debate by the social-democratic administration. Carlos de Deus Pereira, president of PSD Faro, stated that "the problem is having won elections by censuring those who prepared them, and then seeking to appropriated them without executing them."
Among the examples cited by the PSD are Alameda XXI, the requalification of Cais Novo and the riverside waterfront, the marina, new sports facilities, interventions in school parks, and solutions in the cultural area. The party maintains that these matters were already part of the previous administration's priorities and criticizes the presentation of projects with completion scheduled for 2027 as results of the current year.
The PSD also directed criticism at the municipal promise of building 1,000 dwellings, considering that the presented solution is essentially based on properties intended for sale, rather than creating a public affordable housing stock. From the social democrats' perspective, this approach may not meet the needs of families with lower incomes, classifying it as a public policy error.
