The Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) found, through reports and spreadsheets of Flamengo and Fluminense games at the Maracanã, that the clubs have been selling more tickets than the allowed capacity in stadium sectors since last year. The problem is more serious in the north sector and in the reserved seats, which endangers the safety of the public attending the games.
The investigation revealed suspicion that the extra tickets sold would not be correctly listed in the match borderô, a mandatory financial document for each game. Based on the authorities' calculations, this practice may result in a possible misappropriation of approximately R$ 1 million per month.
There is also an additional concern regarding the official spreadsheets about the Maracanã's capacity, disclosed at a meeting of the Football Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Ferj). According to the investigation, these numbers used by public agencies to plan security may be undersized, which compromises security planning for events.
