Artists created chalk portraits of the 40 passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The portraits were made at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the flight, located in the small town of Shanksville. The artists paid this tribute before the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Flight 93 was one of four planes hijacked that day, and it is believed that the passengers and crew tried to regain control of the plane from the hijackers, preventing them from reaching their intended target in Washington.
