Union accuses Government of not valuing teachers

Braga TV10 September 2026 at 23:05

The National Union of Teachers Licensed by Polytechnics and Universities (SPLIU) accused the Government of not valuing teachers. In a statement released after the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday in Bragança, the union contested the Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's statements about measures adopted for the teaching profession.

SPLIU considered that Montenegro's assertions do not correspond to the reality experienced by teachers. The union expressed its disagreement with the way the executive has been handling the valorization of the teaching profession.

This accusation comes following a Council of Ministers held in Bragança, the city that hosted the Government's meeting. The Prime Minister had made public statements about the measures implemented for teachers, which SPLIU considered insufficient or out of context with the actual situation of the teaching profession.
