The Serralves Foundation, in Porto, presents a project that gives voice to stories of inmates from Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. The performance was created by Poncili Creación, an artistic collective that developed the project in partnership with prison institutions.
The work comes to life through the creations of Modatex students, a professional school in the textile area. These students were responsible for giving body and form to imaginary beings that were developed during anti-colonial dramaturgy workshops held with the inmates.
The imaginary beings created by the prisoners were transformed into costumes and stage elements by the students, thus establishing a bridge between the artistic expression of the inmates and the craftsmanship work of the students. This collaboration between different communities creates a unique artistic dialogue.
The project is part of an anti-colonial perspective, bringing to Serralves Foundation narratives and voices frequently marginalized. The presentation allows the stories of Tenerife inmates to reach a new audience, in a prestigious cultural space in Portugal.
