The 2026 Venice Film Festival presented a Main Competition edition that, although not considered memorable, featured a solid set of European films. The festival's central showcase brought no extraordinary surprises, but also no film seemed to deviate from expectations.
Danish cinema was represented by "Kvinde Ukendt" ("Woman Unknown"), directed by May el-Toukhy. The filmmaker signed a work that was part of the official competition selection.
On the French side, Bernard Brizé presented "Un bon petit soldat," reinforcing the Gaulish presence at the event. Florian Zeller, also a French director, brought the film "Bunker" to Venice, thus completing the trilogy of highlights mentioned by the article in the context of the Main Competition.
