Israel announced on Thursday that it had destroyed important tunnels built by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group under the strategic Ali al-Taher hill in southern Lebanon. The explosion caused tremors in the region, where the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. The National News Agency (NNA), Lebanon's state-run news agency, had reported a "massive explosion" on the hill, located in the Nabatieh region, causing tremors and a loud boom.
Journalists from Agence France-Presse (AFP) who were in the region reported hearing several explosions. In a video released by Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, a huge fireball can be seen rising into the night sky. The Israeli military shared images of the explosions on September 10, 2026, showing the magnitude of the military operation.
