Young volunteers removed more than 98 thousand cigarette butts from Sintra's beaches during the summer period. The cleanup action was carried out by young people who dedicated themselves to collecting cigarette butts from the sand and shores of the region's beaches.
Sintra's beaches were the target of this environmental cleanup initiative. The amount of cigarette butts collected demonstrates the scale of the litter problem left in the coastal areas of the municipality during the bathing season.
The effort of the young people contributed to improving the conditions of Sintra's beaches during the summer months, when the number of beachgoers is higher and waste production tends to increase significantly.
