The Casino Estoril Auditorium sold out to host the show "Once Upon a Fado," which took place on August 28, 29, and 30. The show, created by Henrique Feist, traced the history of fado from its birth in Lisbon's historic neighborhoods in the 19th century to being considered the ultimate expression of the Portuguese soul and national identity. The audience gave a standing ovation.
The show presented fado in its various musical expressions, searching for the origins and essence of this very Portuguese genre. Fado has been recognized by UNESCO, since 2011, as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which reinforces the cultural importance of this presentation.
In "Once Upon a Fado," Valter Mira, Marta Alves, and Henrique Feist shared the stage with Manel Ferreira on the Portuguese guitar and Miguel Silva on the fado viola. The event's photographs were captured by Conceição Alves.
