Rubio praised the Peruvian president following the meeting, emphasizing that the people elected her because she promised to address problems and is already doing so. He stated that the United States will support her in every way possible, not only out of friendship but also because it is in America's national interest.
The Secretary of State emphasized that criminal gangs operating with impunity in the hemisphere pose a direct threat to the United States, thereby justifying American support for the Fujimori government. However, the issue of Peru's economic dependence on China remains an unresolved point in bilateral relations.
