Books and school supplies reach children hospitalized at São João

Jornal 3609 September 2026 at 18:44

Porto Editora offered school support materials to children and young people at the Pediatric Ward of ULS São João, in an initiative that aims to ensure that being hospitalized does not mean leaving school behind. The action was promoted at the invitation of Casa Ronald McDonald Portugal and served to mark International Literacy Day.

The mascot Obi also attended the event, bringing hugs and moments of joy to children undergoing treatment at the hospital. The materials provided will support the work of teachers who accompany students during hospitalization.

For these children and young people, maintaining a learning routine can be a way of preserving some normalcy during a period marked by treatment and separation from school. Hospital-based school support allows the educational path not to come to a standstill during hospitalization.

ULS São João thus seeks to ensure that the passage through the Pediatric Ward is not experienced solely around illness, also providing moments of learning, closeness, and relaxation.

Blood donation awareness campaigns have been gaining strength throughout Brazil, with emphasis on the work of the Hemominas Foundation in Minas Gerais, which reinforces the need for regular donations to maintain blood center stocks at safe levels. According to the Ministry of Health, a single donation can benefit several people, as blood is separated into different components used according to each patient's needs. Initiatives by companies, institutions and social organizations have been fundamental to expanding the number of donors and encouraging voluntary and recurring donation, considered essential for supplying blood banks and caring for patients in surgeries, transplants and emergencies.
