International Civil Aviation Organization warns of new threats on the eve of the 25th anniversary of September 11

CNN Portugal10 September 2026 at 21:53

The International Civil Aviation Organization warned of new threats in the civil aviation sector on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. This warning comes at a time when two and a half decades are being commemorated since the terrorist attacks that shook the global aviation sector.

ICAO has kept unchanged its 2050 goal of advancing toward zero-fatality air transport. This objective expressly includes the elimination of deaths caused by unlawful acts against civil aviation.

The organization's warning comes in a context of evolving threats to the aviation sector, which has been facing new security challenges in recent decades. ICAO continues to work toward ensuring the safety of passengers and air operations globally.
