GD Chaves announced that an agreement was reached for the signing of Néstor Araújo, a 35-year-old Mexican centre-back, who will now join the squad of the Valentes Transmontanos for the 2026/27 season.
A Mexico international, with 68 caps and three goals scored, Araújo arrives at the Trás-os-Montes club as a free agent, after leaving Club América. His career was marked by stints in Mexican and Spanish football, having represented clubs such as Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna.
Before arriving at Chaves, the centre-back played for Celta de Vigo, where he made over a hundred appearances between 2018 and 2022. He then returned to Mexico to represent Club América, the club he left before signing for the Portuguese side.
At 35 years old, the centre-back has extensive experience in prestigious international competitions, having participated in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the 2017 Confederations Cup, two editions of the Gold Cup and two editions of the Copa América.
