The Workers' Party should propose the adoption of terms for ministers of superior courts in a resolution from the party's executive board to be released on Thursday. The proposal emerges amid an unprecedented institutional crisis of the Supreme Federal Court.
According to the party's president, Edinho Silva, the text should suggest the beginning of a debate on the subject, without bringing details about how many years of term and how this would happen. "We will open the debate on terms, we are not specifying or detailing," Edinho stated.
In the 2018 election, when the PT initially had Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as a presidential candidate and later Fernando Haddad, the government program already proposed the adoption of terms for ministers of the Supreme Court and higher courts.
At that time, the party was in conflict with the Court, which had denied a habeas corpus to free Lula from prison and also the possibility of him being a candidate in that election. In the second round of 2018, with the need to make the program more moderate to gain votes, the PT partially retreated from the proposal.
