Now10 September 2026 at 20:52

The Public Prosecutor's Office requested a five-year prison sentence for a defendant in the case related to the shipwreck that caused four deaths in Troia. The trial is taking place at the Setúbal District Court.

The four fatal victims were on board the vessel that sank. The accident occurred in the waters of the Troia area, in the district of Setúbal.

One of the lawyers representing the families of the four victims considered that the prison sentence imposed by the court should only be suspended if the claimed compensations, totaling hundreds of thousands of euros, are paid.

The case continues to proceed, with both parties presenting their arguments before the court.

Dark sand takes over stretch of Copacabana Beach. Inea inspects to try to discover cause of the problem

A dark sand stain appeared on a stretch of Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, this Thursday, after rain hit the city. Technicians from the State Environmental Institute inspected the site to try to identify the cause of the pollution. It is not the first time the problem has occurred: in December 2024, dark water had already taken over the sand between posts 4 and 5, when the concessionaire Águas do Rio reported that it was runoff from rainwater mixed with diluted effluents, rubber residue, asphalt, and dirt from public roads.
