The mega-operation launched on Thursday morning (10) in São Paulo by the Public Ministry and the Civil and Military Police targeted the so-called cell phone mafia. The operation relied on the collaboration of prisoners convicted of theft and robbery of devices, who provided detailed information about how this criminal network operates.
Justice Prosecutor Luiz Fernando Bugiga explained that the detainees revealed how the dynamics of cell phone crimes work, especially in the central region of São Paulo's capital. According to him, the prisoners indicated how the devices are stolen, who they are delivered to, who are the main agents responsible for unlocking and modifying the characteristics of cell phones, and identified commercial establishments that receive and receive these illicit devices.
In return for their collaboration, the prisoners involved in the agreement, whose names were not identified, asked the court for progression in the prison system, in addition to requesting transfer to more privileged penitentiaries. The prosecutor detailed that this cooperation was fundamental to the success of the operation against the cell phone mafia in the capital.
