Half of the enrolled students were absent from the extraordinary session exams

SAPO Notícias10 September 2026 at 18:40

Half of the students enrolled for the extraordinary season of national secondary education exams missed the tests that were held. Official data from the Ministry of Education shows an absence rate of 49.6%, meaning that almost half of the students did not attend the assessments.

The extraordinary season exams are held for students who were unable to participate on the regular dates or who needed a second opportunity to complete their secondary studies.

The Ministry of Education did not specify the reasons for this high absence rate, but the extraordinary season traditionally tends to have lower attendance compared to the normal exam seasons.

This data comes at a time when the Portuguese education system continues to struggle with challenges related to the attendance and completion of secondary studies by young people.
