The Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC) considered that TVI did not respect the principles of "antenna ethics" in the broadcast of an interview conducted by Cristina Ferreira about a sexual assault case.
According to the regulator, statements were made that downplay the gravity of the aggressors' actions and the violence perpetuated, which represents a violation of the ethical standards required in Portuguese media.
The ERC issued this decision after analysing the complaint filed against the content of the interview in question, concluding that the way the case was presented may have minimised the seriousness of the rape crime.
It now falls to TVI and Cristina Ferreira's team to respond to the regulator's conclusions, in a process that underscores the responsibility of the media in covering sexual violence cases.
