"With this coach I won't play": Okafor unavailable to represent Switzerland

Record10 September 2026 at 16:45

Forward Noah Okafor, who plays for Leeds United, announced he will not be available to represent the Swiss national team as long as Murat Yakin remains the manager. The 24-year-old player publicly criticized the manager's decisions, citing disagreements between the two as the reason for his absence from the national team.

Okafor, who had previously been present at Swiss national team camps, is said to have made this decision after not being used satisfactorily during the latest international fixtures. The winger expressed his displeasure regarding how his position in the national team has been managed.

Murat Yakin, Switzerland's manager since 2021, has faced criticism from several players recently, suggesting a tense environment within the national team. Okafor's situation joins other cases of players who have publicly expressed their discomfort with the technical leadership of the national team.

Leeds United, the club that competes in the English Championship, thus loses the contribution of one of its most important players during international breaks. The Swiss Football Association has not yet officially commented on the forward's decision.
