Pentagon enters the laser weapons era. US Army signs first production contract

After decades of failed tests and prototypes, the Pentagon took a historic step by officially entering the laser weapons era. The United States Army signed the first mass production contract for this type of military technology.

The contract, worth $465 million, was signed with the company AeroVironment. Through this agreement, the US Army will receive 26 anti-drone lasers with a capacity of 30 kW.

This milestone represents a significant shift in the directed energy weapons industry, potentially accelerating the development and adoption of this type of technology by other military forces. The signing of the contract marks the transition of lasers from simple experimental projects to real operational systems.
