About 337 light-years from Earth, a planetary system called TOI-1752 was discovered, housing two planets confirmed by a team from the Teide Observatory. The central star is a red dwarf of type M1, smaller, cooler and less bright than the Sun.
The two planets are radically different from each other. The first, TOI-1752 b, is an extremely hot world, possibly covered in lava. The second, TOI-1752 c, is a temperate world located in the habitable zone of its host star, where conditions favorable to the development of life may exist.
Red dwarfs are particularly favorable for this type of research, since small planets can block a relatively large fraction of starlight when they pass in front of them. This periodic decrease in brightness, known as transit, allows astronomers to calculate the orbital period of the planets.
