Italy has decided to postpone the meeting of the MED5 interior ministers with Spain, amid the growing diplomatic tension between both countries over the migration crisis in Ceuta. Sources from the Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed this decision to EL PERIÓDICO.
The meeting, which was left in suspense, was cancelled through an official communication sent on August 31 to the teams of both ministers. The decision was made after an informal conversation between the Italian minister, Matteo Piantedosi, and the Spanish minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
This incident reflects the deterioration of relations between two strategic Mediterranean partners, who find themselves immersed in a war of diplomatic nerves that has been increasing since the beginning of the Ceuta crisis.
