The environmental association ZERO warned that the eight million euros planned for the restoration of urban ecosystems in Portugal may represent just "greenwashing". The organization questioned the insufficiency of the funds allocated to the program.
The alert comes at a time when the financing of Pronaturbe is under discussion, a program dedicated to nature in urban environments. The association considers that the allocated amount will not be sufficient to achieve the proposed ecological restoration objectives.
According to ZERO's calculations, considering that 100 million euros are planned for a decade and the goal is to restore 100 hectares per year, the program will have approximately 10 euros per square meter of land. This value is considered too low by the association for interventions with real impact on urban ecosystems.
