VCI. Platform for registering heavy vehicles "still in testing"

Observador10 September 2026 at 13:42

The Via de Cintura Interna (VCI) in Porto will soon prohibit the circulation of heavy vehicles, but the digital platform intended to register exceptions to this measure is still in the testing phase. The ban is just days away from taking effect, raising questions about the operability of the registration system.

The platform in question serves so that transport companies and other operators can request special authorizations to circulate with heavy vehicles on the VCI during specific periods. However, the tool is still not fully functional.

Authorities guarantee that the fact that the platform is in testing does not put the ban's rollout at risk. In other words, the main measure will proceed as planned, regardless of the current state of the exception registration system.

This situation generates concern among transport operators who need to request special authorizations, as they are unaware whether they will be able to make their registrations in time for the ban to take effect.
