Dark Horse: Mario Frias and Film Producer About Bolsonaro Are Targets of Federal Police Operation

Portal O Dia10 September 2026 at 10:08

The Federal Police launched an operation targeting former Special Culture Secretary Mario Frias and a production company responsible for the film "Dark Horse" (Cavalo de Batalha), which tells the life story of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The investigation examines suspected misuse of parliamentary budget amendment funds that would have been directed to cultural entities linked to the film production.

According to the investigations, public funds would have been irregularly directed to companies and organizations linked to the film project. The parliamentary budget amendments analyzed in the case would be those directed to cultural entities that had direct or indirect connection to the film production.

Mario Frias, who was appointed by Bolsonaro to the position of Special Secretary of Culture, is one of the targets of the operation. In addition to him, other individuals under investigation were also served with search and seizure warrants carried out by the Federal Police.

The film "Dark Horse" is a documentary about Bolsonaro's trajectory, which had its premiere in Brazil during the term of the then president. The operation seeks evidence that there was misuse of public money intended for culture to benefit the film production.
