Guimarães brings heritage and Vimaranese identity to Japan

Guimarães received, on September 7 and 8, a reporting team from TBS – Tokyo Broadcasting System, one of Japan's main television stations, which came to the municipality to collect images and testimonies for the documentary programme "Sekai no Mado" (Windows to the World). The visit resulted from prior work identifying locations, developed with the collaboration of the World Heritage and Classified Properties Division of the Municipal Council of Guimarães, which allowed the selection of homes and residents with the characteristics sought by the production.

The programme "Sekai no Mado" explores traditional windows from different regions of the world, valuing not only their architectural value but also the stories, experiences and memories of the people who inhabit these spaces. In Guimarães, the team's attention focused particularly on sash windows and windows with lattice work, also known as "rótulas," characteristic elements of the traditional architecture of the city's Historic Centre.
