Food waste in Spain was reduced by 20% over five years, according to data presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Luis Planas. The decrease is equivalent to 19.2% of foods that in 2020 would have ended up in the trash of Spanish homes, but which stopped being lost by 2025.
Among the factors that contributed to this reduction are better planned shopping, more organized refrigerators and pantries, and above all, greater awareness among Spanish consumers about the issue of food waste.
The 2025 data was presented by Minister Planas this Thursday. However, the report indicates that food and beverage losses grew by 0.4% compared to 2024, although per capita waste decreased by 0.3% in the same period.
