European Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque warned at the European Parliament that ambition in complementary pensions has been reduced, calling for support to advance the reforms planned under the Savings and Investment Union.
During her speech, Albuquerque emphasized that complementary pension systems should be a complement to public pension schemes, and not a substitute for them.
The commissioner was defending in the European legislative body the need to continue working on structural reforms that enable strengthening savings and investment in the European Union.
The warning comes at a time when the long-term challenges of pension systems and the need to ensure their financial sustainability are being discussed at the European level.
