Russia admits new peace talks while intensifying attacks

SAPO Notícias10 September 2026 at 12:25

Russia officially admitted it is negotiating a peace agreement with Ukraine, a significant shift in its position until now. Moscow expressed willingness to move forward with negotiations, although it continues to intensify military attacks on Ukrainian territory.

The Russian government indicated it wants the peace talks to take place in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. This location choice suggests an attempt to find a neutral mediator for the negotiating process.

As a condition to move forward with negotiations, Russia demands that US military aid to Ukraine be ended. This demand reflects Moscow's position that American military support is an obstacle to resolving the conflict.

The intensification of Russian attacks occurs in parallel with this negotiating opening, creating a situation of tension in which Moscow appears to want to strengthen its position of strength before any agreement.
