Algueirão-Mem Martins railway station requalification advances in 2027

Correio de Sintra10 September 2026 at 11:45

The requalification works of the Algueirão-Mem Martins railway station, in Sintra, are expected to start in 2027, with completion planned by 2030. The confirmation was given by Marco Almeida, president of the Sintra City Council, in statements to TSF radio, who stated that there are already meetings scheduled with the Ministry of Infrastructure to advance the remodeling works.

The population and parish of Algueirão-Mem Martins have been demanding the requalification of the station for several years, considering that the current configuration is frequently compared to that of a halt. Marco Almeida stressed that the railway station "is a halt due to the conditions it has, it doesn't even have station status". Infraestruturas de Portugal has carried out studies and developed a requalification project, but the interventions have never moved forward due to lack of investment.

According to the mayor, Minister Miguel Pinto Luz "made a point of telling IP that the reformulation of the halt into a station had to be urgent". During 2027, the station should receive a first intervention that includes the installation of coverings and the painting of the facilities, with the objective of "giving more dignity and more comfort to the users who use that station". Marco Almeida stated he was convinced that "by 2030 it will be completely reformulated".
