Inflation rate of 3.3% in August. Acceleration explained by the increase in diesel price

The National Statistics Institute confirmed this Thursday that the inflation rate in Portugal reached 3.3% in the month of August. This value represents an acceleration compared to the previous month.

The inflation rate recorded in August is 0.3 percentage points higher than the value observed in July, marking a significant acceleration in the pace of price growth.

According to Statistics Portugal, this acceleration of inflation is almost entirely explained by the increase in the diesel price, which had a direct impact on the consumer price index.

Albuquerque called for greater political ambition to solve structural problems, emphasizing that the resilience of European banks is not enough without competitiveness. The commissioner also revealed that the EU intends to achieve political agreements by the end of the year on the Market Integration and Supervision Package, complementary pensions and securitization, within the Savings and Investment Union.
