Metrobus extends operation today in Coimbra and forces changes to traffic and buses

Diário de Coimbra10 September 2026 at 11:01

Coimbra's Metrobus extended today its operation, causing significant changes to the city's traffic and public transport network. The Municipal Urban Transport Services of Coimbra (SMTUC) implemented changes affecting more than 20 bus lines.

The municipality estimates that about 14% of SMTUC's daily passengers will be impacted by these changes to the transport network. This expansion is part of a plan to reorganize the city's mobility system.

Drivers and users should pay attention to the new routes and schedules implemented with this Metrobus expansion, which aims to improve connectivity in the Coimbra region.

Brussels prepares legislative package to simplify banking regulation and strengthen sector competitiveness

The European Commissioner for Financial Services, Maria Luís Albuquerque, announced that the European Commission will present in the first quarter of 2027 a legislative package to simplify banking regulation in the EU, reduce fragmentation of the single market and adapt international standards to European specifics. The announcement follows the Report on Banking Sector Competitiveness, which identifies three major obstacles: fragmentation of the single market and the need to complete the Banking Union, better adaptation of international standards to the European economy, and excessive complexity of the prudential framework requiring greater proportionality for smaller banks. Albuquerque called for greater political ambition to solve structural problems, emphasizing that the resilience of European banks is not enough without competitiveness. The commissioner also revealed that the EU intends to achieve political agreements by the end of the year on the Market Integration and Supervision Package, complementary pensions and securitization, within the Savings and Investment Union.

Brussels presents in early 2027 a "comprehensive package" to strengthen EU banking

The European Commission will present in early 2027 a "comprehensive package" of legislative measures to strengthen the EU banking sector. This future package will be based on the institution's report on banking sector competitiveness and the banking single market, presented last July, which identified three major challenges for the European banking sector. The goal is to strengthen European banking in the face of growing international competition and the regulatory and structural challenges the sector faces.
