The President of the United States, Donald Trump, interrupted a speech on economics, immigration, and foreign policy to comment on one of the most controversial NBA trades in recent years. During the Republican National Committee's midterm convention, on Wednesday night, Trump criticized the trade that brought Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025.
The speech was delivered precisely at the American Airlines Center, the Mavericks' arena, in Dallas. Before the local audience, Trump stated he does not understand the decision made by the Texas franchise.
Trump declared that the trade will not be remembered as the best trade in sports history and even stated it may be remembered as the worst. The president noted that the Babe Ruth trade, where he was sent from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees over a century ago, probably still holds the first place among the worst sports trades of all time.
