The parents of a child who died in 2021 following the fall of a goalpost during a physical education class in Leiria are claiming compensation of almost 500,000 euros for the death of their son.
The incident occurred during physical education practice, when the goalpost toppled and caused the child's death. This tragic event took place at a school in the district of Leiria.
In 2025, the teacher responsible for the class was tried and convicted to one year and two months in prison, with a suspended sentence, for negligent homicide. The sentence reflects the responsibility attributed to the teacher for the accident that resulted in the student's death.
The compensation action brought by the parents aims to obtain substantial financial compensation, around 500,000 euros, as a form of civil liability for the loss of their son.
