oglobo10 September 2026 at 09:50

A landslide hit on Thursday a parking lot located at one of the main access gates to Mount Fuji, Japan, coinciding with the last day of the official climbing season to the volcano. The incident occurred after heavy rains that hit the region, leaving three vehicles partially covered on Wednesday, according to local authorities.

The affected parking lot is on one of the main access routes to the mountain, which is 3,776 meters high and is considered the tallest in Japan. Local authorities and official mountain guides released videos and photos showing the access roads and trails in the region after the landslide.

There were no reports of injuries in the incident. The three vehicles hit belonged to workers who work at the parking lot maintenance site. Hisayuki Motohashi, responsible for road maintenance for the Shizuoka provincial government, confirmed the details of the incident and the number of vehicles affected.
