Real estate consultant Pedro Alencar, a resident of Marechal Deodoro, found new oil stains on Francês Beach, on the coast of Alagoas. He recorded and published the samples on social media. The material found is similar to that located on Tuesday, about 30 kilometers away, between the beaches of Riacho Doce and Guaxuma, in Maceió.
The stains, up to 10 centimeters, were identified on the sand along the four kilometers of the beach's extension. There is still no confirmation about the origin or the composition of the material found.
Biologist and professor Rivelino Martins Cavalcante, from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), stated that, although it still needs to be analyzed, the material has a high probability of being petroleum. According to him and other specialists, however, the appearance of the stains indicates that they are probably not related to the major petroleum spill of 2019.
The Biota Institute is mentioned in the article, but the information about this organization's involvement appears incomplete in the text.
