August 2023 was the hottest month ever recorded in the world, according to data released by the European Copernicus service. This month surpassed the previous record that belonged to July of the same year, with a global average temperature of 16.95 degrees Celsius.
Western Europe also experienced its hottest summer in history during this period. Global temperatures exceeded 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, representing a significant milestone in climate measurements.
Copernicus, the European climate monitoring service, was the institution responsible for collecting and disseminating this data. The graphs now published by the service show the average global air temperature during this period.
