The Spanish National Intelligence Center (CNI) produced a report in June 2026 alerting about the growth of the Algerian migratory route towards the Balearic Islands, which became the most important in 2026. The Government declassified the document yesterday, making it public.
The report was specifically prepared for the Moncloa Executive and identifies two circumstances in Algeria that could further increase the flow of irregular migrants through this route to the Balearic Islands.
The declassification of the document represents a significant revelation about the migratory situation in the Western Mediterranean, evidencing the concern of Spanish authorities with the sustained increase of this irregular migration route.
The now available document shows that the Algerian route has consolidated as the main entry point for irregular migrants into Spain during the year 2026, surpassing other traditional routes.
