Brussels proposes new rules to limit short-term rentals and vacant homes, with the aim of lowering house prices and rents in the European Union. The measures aim to address the housing crisis affecting several Member States.
Local municipalities will benefit from greater flexibility to implement these measures on the ground, taking into account their local specificities. However, the new rules are not considered sufficient to solve the housing problem in a comprehensive manner.
The proposal comes in a context of growing concern about access to housing in several European Union countries, where prices have been rising significantly in recent years.
