The European Central Bank (ECB) is set to raise interest rates again. The Governing Council led by Christine Lagarde is expected to announce a new increase in the cost of money, the second this year, in response to the acceleration of inflation in the euro area.
Financial markets expect the ECB to repeat the dose once more in December and to carry out three to four additional increases over the next year, in order to control the widespread rise in prices.
However, analysts do not share the same certainty regarding future decisions. There is a divergence of opinions between what markets project and what experts consider likely for the institution's monetary policy.
The ECB thus faces the challenge of balancing the fight against inflation without compromising economic growth, in a context of uncertainty about the evolution of the European economy in the coming months.
