Rent subsidy beneficiaries in Portugal continue to face payment delays. This is a monthly automatic allowance of up to 200 euros intended to help citizens with difficulties paying rent, but it is not being paid on time. In November, there were 43,000 citizens with this support payment delayed, meaning several months of subsidy not yet received.
Complaints are multiplying among those affected. One of the witnesses heard in this context states that the son pays the electricity of the house while the mother pays the rent, highlighting the financial difficulties these families face and their dependence on this state support to maintain their housing.
The situation especially affects people who depend entirely on this aid to meet their commitments to landlords. The delays in payments place these families in a vulnerable position, forcing them to seek alternative solutions or ask for help from relatives to keep a roof over their heads.
