Moldova has been implementing reforms at an accelerated pace, which has led European authorities to reinforce the attention devoted to the country, even before any formal conclusion of the negotiating process.
However, Moldova's accession remains directly linked to Ukraine's accession process, which is currently blocked due to Hungary's opposition. Budapest has been the main obstacle to advances in the negotiating process with Kyiv.
This situation places Moldova in a delicate position, as its concrete progress on reforms may not immediately translate into formal advances in the accession process, while the process with Ukraine remains stalled by political issues unrelated to Chișinău's efforts.
