More than 78 years have passed since the last victory of CD Castellón against Girona in the Spanish Segunda División. This feat occurred in the 1948/49 season, when the team led by Almeria-born Francisco Gómez managed to win at the old Camp de Vista Alegre, with a triumph that had a name: Francisco Mamblona.
The forward from El Cabanyal, in Valencia, arrived that same 1948/49 season from Alicante CF and signed a spectacular season in his debut. Mamblona became the hero of the match by scoring a hat-trick that decided the final score of 2-3 in favor of Castellón.
This feat was decisive for Castellon's permanence in Segunda División. Of the 46 goals that the albinegro team scored throughout the season, 23 bore the signature of Mamblona himself, a statistic even more impressive considering that the forward played only 23 matches in the league.
