The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, condemned the escalation of tension between the United States and Iran, through a statement made by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric at the UN's daily press briefing.
Gutters insisted that his plan to facilitate the passage of fertilizers through the Strait of Hormuz, currently blocked by Iran, remains "on the table" as a solution to the crisis.
The spokesperson made the statement after the Islamic Republic of Iran had claimed it attacked two American ships and eight tankers, although Washington later denied that any attack occurred.
The situation arises in a context of growing tension between the two countries, with Tehran blocking passage through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime routes for oil transport.
