WhatsApp will start charging for messages in the Business API model starting in October

extra9 September 2026 at 21:39

WhatsApp, Meta's platform, will start charging from October 1st for service messages and utility messages sent in response to users through the WhatsApp Business API model. The company reported that this charge is aimed exclusively at medium and large companies that use the API model, not affecting regular WhatsApp users or small businesses that use the WhatsApp Business App.

Meta announced that it will officially launch on the same date the Meta Business Agent, which will divide messages into two categories: service, already existing, and Meta Business Agent, new. Service messages can be sent both by a person, such as a customer service representative, as well as by a third-party Artificial Intelligence solution.

The charge will be applied only on messages effectively delivered, not on those sent. The cost will be fixed, at $0.68 per message delivery, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 3.46 at the current exchange rate. The company also warned that businesses without a registered payment method will have their messages paused.
