The Central Bank is preparing measures to prevent the misuse of credit and increase the transparency of operations for consumers. These initiatives are considered structural points to combat indebtedness and income commitment of the Brazilian population with debt payments, which have been at record levels for some years.
There is specific concern about attractive loan offers that do not clearly present the total cost of the operation. The objective is to ensure that consumers have access to complete and understandable information before taking on debts.
Another point under discussion, considering experiences from other countries such as France and the United States, is the creation of a framework that gives special attention to people in situations of financial vulnerability.
In parallel, macroprudential measures are being discussed to induce greater caution from banks in credit offers, especially in more expensive lines such as credit cards and unsecured personal credit.
