The Nazaré Municipal Council is completing, and expects to open in January next year, the Funicular da Pederneira, which will link the beach to the upper part of the town. The infrastructure is in the final phase of construction and represents a significant investment for the municipality.
The new funicular comes as a response to the need to improve mobility between the coastal zone and the elevated area of Nazaré, facilitating access for both residents and tourists. Travel between these two areas has been a concern of the local authority over the past few years.
This project is part of a broader set of interventions that the Municipal Council has been carrying out to enhance Pederneira and boost the local economy. The expectation is that the infrastructure will contribute to the region's tourism and commercial development.
The planned opening in January allows for the benefits to be anticipated during Nazaré's high tourist season, known internationally for its giant waves. The funicular is expected to become an asset for visitors' experience and for the quality of life of the local population.
